http://brocktonrox.com/team/?id=877

Brad Guy,1975

http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/brad_guy.shtml

(一場他先發投了7.1局隊友只得2分,以2:3輸球;

Rox pitcher hopes to strike it rich in Taiwan

BROCKTON – OK, so he didn’t win any of his starts. The Brockton Rox are still going to miss that Guy.

The first big hole in Brockton’s pitching staff became official on Friday, when Brad Guy, a 29-year-old right-hander, was removed from the roster.

“It was a difficult decision,”Guy said Thursday, before taking the loss at North Shore despite allowing only three runs in a seven-inning outing.”Of all the places I’ve played, this is probably the best. It’s not easy to leave in the middle of the season like this.

“But it’s a financial decision. I’ve been in the minors my whole career, and there may not be that many more opportunities for me to make some money before I retire. I can make about three times more in Taiwan than I can here (Can-Am League teams operate under a salary cap, and only play a 92-game schedule), and I think this team understands that.”

What the Rox also understand is that they’re losing a pitcher who put them in position to win all six of his starts – three of which they did, in fact, go on to win. Guy, who’ll leave for his new team early next week, takes an 0-2, 3.03 record with him, but he didn’t get much help in the games that resulted in him being charged with losses.

“I felt like in most of the starts, I did what I wanted,”said Guy, who never failed to pitch into the sixth inning.”It was just one of those situations where it was tough to get a win.”

Now, it’s off to spend the second half of the season in Taiwan, where there are very few North American imports.

“I’m lucky, because I played some winter ball in Venezuela earlier in my career,”he said. “I know what it’s like to move into a completely different culture, and deal with things like language barriers. I found a way to get along in Venezuela, and I expect I’ll be able to do the same in Taiwan.”

While Guy is undertaking his adventure largely for monetary reasons, he also hopes that continued strong performances against what he understands to be excellent competition might bring him back to the States in a more favorable position.

“That’s always in the back of your mind,”he said.”It may be kind of late at my age, but teams over here monitor leagues everywhere. If you pitch well enough, you never know whether there might be one more chance to get back into (Major League)-affiliated ball, which would be ideal. You never know.”
